KCARC's Email Groups

The club runs its email on Groups.io. Three groups carry almost everything, and you don't need to be a member to join. If you only join one, join Main.

Official club announcements: meetings, events, elections, and club business. Only officers post, so it's low volume and never buried in chatter.

On the web

Join Main

Type your email, check I'm not a robot, and click Confirm Email Address.

Either way, one more step: watch for a confirmation email and click the link inside. Not there in a few minutes? Check your spam folder.

Rag Chew

Open to all

The club's conversation. Ask a question, share a project, find help, or sell gear. It's the busiest group, so most people choose the daily summary. You can read past conversations anytime, even before you join.

Join Main first. Rag Chew lives inside it.

Start a conversation: email General@kcarc.groups.io with a clear subject line.
Reply to everyone: just hit Reply. Reply privately: use the Reply to Sender link at the bottom of the email.
Post conversations here, not in Main. Main is announcements only, so a message sent there won't go out.

GMRS

Approval required

News and talk for GMRS users in the area and the club's Gold Mountain GMRS repeater (Channel 17).

Join Main first. After you confirm, a moderator approves new members, usually within a few days. You'll get an email when you're in. Nothing is broken while you wait.

To post: email GMRS@kcarc.groups.io. The first message of each new conversation is reviewed by a moderator, so it may take a little while to appear.

Control Your Email

This is the setting that makes Groups.io pleasant instead of overwhelming. Set it separately for each group.

Log in at kcarc.groups.io and open the group. No password needed: ask for a login link by email.
Click Subscription in the left menu.
Under Email Delivery, pick one:

Individual MessagesEach post as it arrives.Best for Main

Daily SummaryOne email a day with every topic.Best for Rag Chew

No EmailRead on the website only. Not offered for Main.
Click Save at the bottom.

Not interested in a conversation? Click Mute This Topic at the bottom of any email from it. You'll stop getting that topic and nothing else changes.
Main getting chatty? Most of Main's email is automatic event reminders tagged #cal-reminder. If you'd rather check the club website for events, mute that tag: in Main, click Hashtags, then #cal-reminder, then Mute.

Groups.io tells you when something's new. kcarc.org is the official source for meetings, nets, events, and club information.

See upcoming events

Taking a Break or Leaving

Vacation: set Rag Chew or GMRS to No Email, then switch it back when you return.
Leave one group: send a blank email to its unsubscribe address, such as General+unsubscribe@kcarc.groups.io
Leave everything: leave Main. That removes you from Rag Chew and GMRS too.
